Generalized LAP usually indicates an underlying disease such as the Epstein-Barr virus, human immunodeficeincy virus, lymphoma or an autoimmune disorder. The cervical region is the most commonly involved area among peripheral LAP. There are exceptions in different regions and lymph nodes have different sizes at different ages. In general, if a lymph node diameter exceeds one cm it is considered abnormal. The history of the patient should be considered carefully because it may provide clues to the underlying diagnosis. It may be one of the symptoms of many diseases. Lymphadenopathy (LAP) refers to nodes that are abnormal in either size, consistency or number. Lymph nodes may become enlarged for numerous causes including benign processes and more concerning pathology. The spleen, tonsils, adenoids and Peyer patches are also part of the lymphatic system that filter antigens from the extracellular fluid. Normal lymph nodes are soft, easily compressible and freely mobile. Those in the submandibular, axillary, cervical or inguinal regions may often be palpable in healthy children - particularly if they are slender. Only a doctor or health care professional can determine the exact purpose of the enlargement of supraclavicular lymph nodes. The body has approximately 600 lymph nodes. The left one is responsible for lymphatic drainage of the thorax and abdomen (via the thoracic duct). The right one is responsible for lymphatic drainage of the mediastinum (middle section of the chest cavity), lungs, and esophagus ( Overview of the Esophagus – ). There are two supraclavicular lymph nodes. The function of the supraclavicular lymph nodes is to filter fluid in the body. These lymph nodes are responsible for draining the lymphatic fluid from the neck and head regions.Īnother – Anterior Cervical Lymph Nodes Function Suboccipital (junction between the back of the head and neck).Posterior cervical (on the side of the neck near the back).Jugular (on the top of and underneath the sternocleidomastoid muscles).Submandibular (underside of the jaw on both sides).Others in the clavicle area where the left and right Supraclavicular locations include the following: Together, these effects cause lymph nodes to become red, swollen, and warma condition referred to as lymphadenopathy or adenopathy. It also generates heat that helps damage and destroy the invader. They are laterally located where it joins the sternum in the hollow above the clavicle (collarbone). Inflammation causes blood vessels will dilate (widen) to allow larger immune cells access to the site of the infection. There are two supraclavicular lymph nodes, one on the right side and one on the left side. When the body is overloaded due to illness, infection, or disease, the lymph nodes will swell and may become painful. The body usually will take care of the waste without drawing attention. They, like the supraclavicular one, can trap various infections and other debris that is going throughout the body. I’ve gotten opinions from 4 doctors including my primary and a specialist (ENT) and all have said similar things, likely vaccine related I wouldn’t worry etc etc. Along with this I experienced leg pain, random muscle twitching and shoulder pain. Lymph nodes are responsible for filtering lymph fluid that travels throughout the body. Three days later I developed a swollen lymph node on my collar bone region on the side of the injection (Left arm). When enlarged, it can cause pain in the neck or maybe a lump without pain. Supraclavicular lymph nodes are in the neck in the hollow that is just above the clavicle (collarbone). Not all pains in the neck are going to be in the form of a co-worker or offspring.
